They have but that And the week’s good start. Happy Friday everyone. I’m Sally Turner here to kick off your weekend with a Good Start. And for our favorite video of the week These tiny BFF’s were so happy to see each other. Caught on video Two-year-old’s Maxwell and Finnegan are from music class to playdates. And if that wasn’t cute enough for you, don’t you worry. Dutch photographer Dick Van Duijn went to Vienna, Austria to photograph ground squirrels and he landed on a goldmine. The little critter hugging the little guy was enjoying. The photographer And while it might appear the little guy was in stopping to smell the roses, he was actually Which is actually fascinating because I did not know that squirrels ate flowers. And for our main story, for decades the catwalks at New York Fashion Week have been reserved for the likes of supermodels. But now it’s time for models with different abilities to strut their stuff too. Runway of Dreams is of all walks of life. My name is Greg Strauss. I’m 24 years old, from Westport, Connecticut. My name is Kacey Marshall and I’m an adaptive fashion designer. They kicked off Fashion Week by I had the worst experience dress shopping for prom. With my scoliosis, I had issues with zippers and I couldn’t get the zipper to go over my spine, and that inspired me to start looking into clothing options for women who use wheelchairs. So adaptive clothing gives me the confidence to start my day and be my own person There’s more independence. You know, you don’t have to rely on, you know, sometone else helping you get dressed. It just helps speed up the time, you know, that you can get ready. You know, just like a normal-abled person can do on a daily basis. After Runway of Dreams founder, Mindy Scheier, was when her son Oliver, who has muscular dystrophy, was five years ago. One day, he came home from school and said, ‘Mom I want to wear jeans. I don’t understand why everybody else gets to wear them, and I’ve never worn them to school.’ And it was truly a kick-in-the-stomach moment, that here I was in the fashion industry.Thought about what I was going to wear every single day because it is how I presented myself to the world, and needed to be reminded from my eight-year-old how important it is to everybody. That night, I took a pair of jeans and ripped them apart. I took out the zipper an d the button and replaced it with peel-and-stick velcro. I cut up the side seams of the jeans so that they could go around his braces, and he immediately transformed. The confidence that came over him from independently dressing, and feeling that he was able to wear somethin’ everybody else gets to wear, was so impactful. And that is when I decided to start Runway of Dreams in 2014. But she needed to When Runway of Dreams was created in 2014, there were no mainstream brands that had adaptive clothing options. And in February 2016, when we partnered with Tommy Hilfiger to create the first-ever mainstream adaptive clothing line for kids was a revolutionary moment. Mindy says in the last few years, designers like Tommy Hilfiger have started and making openings We had Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive. We had Kohl’s Adaptive, as well as Zappos Adaptive. And that is extraordinary that we had three major brands sharing our runway, coming together to make this an industrywide mission that everyone can have adaptive clothing options in their collections.A fashion revolution is happening tonight. As long as I just don’t fall off the runway or anything like that, I’m ok. People with disabilities represent an enormous amount of spending power that has really not been tapped into. Like, when I used to model I used to have to hide my arm and now we’re out here just being able to be ourselves. I’m not wearing a prosthesis for this show. There’s almost a trillion dollars being left on the table for not including people with disabilities into the fashion conversation. Just as much she wants to to become She wants to make people with different abilities Clothing is not optional. It is right behind shelter and food. I feel good onstage. People with disabilities should be able to show the world who they are as people through their clothing choices. On top of their fashion shows, Runway of Dreams has created wardrobe grants for those who can’t afford adaptive clothing, scholarships for emerging adaptive designers, and most recently launched clubs to promote inclusively at over a dozen high schools and colleges. So that is it for this week’s show.
