Hi I’m Ty Brown with dogbehavioronline.com. I’m here in Riverton, Utah today teaching you how to train a dog. The topic of today’s discussion is teaching you how to teach a dog to point. Now the first thing you need to do when you want to teach a dog how to point is get the right kind of puppy. A lot of dogs are bred for the specific purpose of pointing. And so when you’re doing your research find a breed that’s going to be a natural pointer. When you find that breed, go and research several breeders. Find breeders that are actually working their dogs in the hunting venues, so that they know their dogs know how to point. If you can, observe the father, observe the mother and see their work ethic and their ability to point. Once you choose the puppy, gauge his natural instinct, take him out there and see his natural instinct to point. If he has a good natural instinct to point, encourage him and continue along in that vain, so that he learns the proper way to point. With a lot of puppies you’ll want to take them out there with seasoned adults so that they can kind of get the concept from a dog that’s been there before what it is their looking to do for pointing. For additional tips on teaching your dog how to point feel free to contact us at dogbehavioronline.com. .
