Let’s talk about licensing and identification of your pets. Every state has different rules as far as rabies licensure is concerned, so check locally where you are. A lot of states just require every annual, once a year, or every three year rabies vaccination. What that does is register your pet. Essentially, you get a certificate for that, and a licensing tag with a number on it.That number can be traced back to your clinic, or where that rabies vaccination was given, and thus back to you, in case that pet gets lost. A lot of companies and a lot of pet stores have these nice little I.D. tags that you can get made. Some of them are very tough, and and withstand a a lot of trauma to them and and last a long time. So that can have your pet’s identification, your phone number’s on it, that sort of thing. These days, with new technology we have micro chipping, and micro chipping has revolutionized the way that we have dealt with missing pets. And so, the microchips; what they do essentially is go under the skin, and they last for a very long time. They’re benign, don’t cause any problems, and they can be traced. If your dog becomes lost and ends up in a shelter, shelters are going to I.D. these pets, scan these pets to try to find out if they have an I.D. or a chip embedded within them. If they do, that number traces back to your clinic and to yourself, and you can get back in touch with your animal again. .
