Cat Advice For Every Great Cat Owner

Cats’ naturally intelligent and playful nature makes them one of the most popular pets. In addition to being fun and entertaining, having a cat will prevent rodents and other pests from getting in your home. Do your best to keep your cat in good health and happy; they will help to protect your property!

Prevent your cats from playing with drapery cords. These are not great play toys for cats. They can wrap around a cat’s neck pretty easily. This could cause injury or death. Be sure your drape cords are strongly secured.

TIP! Spray electrical cords with some bitter apple to prevent cats from getting electrocuted. If your cat likes to chew cords, hide the cords as best you can.

You must always take your cat for regular vet check-ups. They should get their vaccinations and have a full check up. Try using the same vet during your cat’s life. Your veterinarian needs to know about your pet’s history, and your cat will feel more comfortable if you always take her to the same vet.

Do not allow your cat to stay bored all of the time. Cats require plenty of exercise. Sometimes, cat owners don’t realize this. If your cat is bored, it might develop a depression, obsessive compulsive behaviors or ruin some of your furniture. You need to give it new toys regularly and make sure your cat has plenty of space to run and play. Be sure your cat has something they can climb and something they can scratch if they stay inside.

Your cat needs to be shown lots of love. They give us love, and we need to return it to them. Cats need social time with the family just like people do so that they know that they are valued. Cats want to feel loved and needed.

TIP! Most cats are nocturnal. This refers to the fact that they are usually more active at night.

Children usually take well to cats, but if you have a small child, you may need to provide some instruction. Always train your child the proper way to handle a pet. Demonstrate the proper way to pick up a cat and what they can do with the cat. A cat’s bones are not as strong as a dogs, and they should be treated more gently.

A tablecloth should be made for your cats. A lot of time cats will take their food from their bowls to eat it on the food bowl’s side. Sometimes this will make the area around the bowl messy, and you’ll have to clean it. To make clean up a breeze, use a place mat underneath the bowl or a piece of fabric. You’ll be able to pick it up easily and shake the excess food into the trash.

Your cat should like their carrier. Cats do not respond in the same way dogs do to punishment. They are much better with encouragement. Placing some of your cats favorite items in the carrier can really help. Soon, your cat will naturally enter the carrier. This makes transporting much easier.

Scratching Post

Keep you cat’s old scratching post even if it is beginning to look worn. It’s in this condition that cats tend to love it the most. If you throw it away too soon, that cat may look to your furniture for some clawing while it slowly breaks in a new scratching post.

You need to buy some quality food for your cat. Check out the ingredients, and make sure meat tops the list. Look for foods that do not have corn or elements that aren’t protein. The main part of a cat’s diet should be meat protein, so his cat food should be mostly real meat.

TIP! Male cats sometimes have crystals in their urine, but this can be prevented with the right cat food. If they have to pass the crystals it can cause the cat a lot of pain and paying a vet to help with this can cost you a lot of money.

Play is an important part of a cat’s life. Actually playtime is very common for all animals, especially cats and people despite their age. Older cats do not have the same energy level as younger ones, but they still like to play a little. Play with your cat, and you’ll both have fun.

Litter Box

Consider the placement of your cat’s litter box. It is temping to put it someplace where the odor will not be noticed. However, your cat’s litter box needs to stay in an easily accessible place so that he can find it. Cats can be finicky, so it is important that you give them an environment they feel comfortable in. If the box is placed on a cold floor, place a mat under it.
